Baku-based Azerbaijan Airlines (formed in August 1992), acquired two former Pan Am Boeing 727-235 on leasing base from ALG. 4K-AZ1 was originally delivered on 27.02.1968 as N4740 (sn 19460 / 531) to National Airlines. After the merger between National Airlines and Pan Am in 1980, the aircraft served on Pan Am’s European routes until the carriers cease in 1991. ALG purchased it later and leased it to Azərbaycan Hava Yolları between 1992 and 1994, when it was sold to the carrier. With the arrival of more modern equipment from the late 1990s on, the remaining Boeing 727 were withdrawn from use and eventually scrapped (Frankfurt, 01.09.1997).
