Founded in 1972, Hapag-Lloyd always operated a variety of Boeing types, but in 1977, when main competitor Bavaria-Germanair was purchased, the company could integrate its first Airbus A300B into its fleet. During 1988 the A300Bs were replaced by four A310-204 (D-AHLV/W/X/Z), with pictured D-AHLV as the first of the batch to be delivered on 01.02.1988. Hapag-Loyd was the only customer who ordered the A310-200 with wingtip-fences. Two years after the picture was taken, D-AHLV was removed from service in summer 2005 and went to S7 Siberia Airlines as VP-BSY. In November 2009 it was phased out and scrapped at Opa Locka few months later.
