Founded in 1996, Spanish charter airline Air Plus Comet had nine A310-300 in its fleet, eight of them were Pratt & Whitney-powered examples of the 324 / 325 series. Between July 1999 and November 2000 EC-HFB was operated by Air Plus Comet, before it was phased out and sold to FedEx. After ten years with FedEx as N802FD, it was removed from service and stored at Victoville. EC-HFB started its service life with Pan Am as N824PA in summer 1990, before transferred to Delta following year. In the mid-1990s it was in service with Air India (VT-LED) and Indonesian carrier Merpati Nusantara as PK-MAX.
