Spotlight – Jetair

Jetair (1982 – 1985)

D-AJAA Jet Air Boeing 727-81 (sn 18951 / 237) Frankfurt May 1985

Although formed in January 1982 with the intention to start charter operation in Summer 1983, it was not before late Summer 1984 when  Munich-based carrier Jetair was able to start its first operations. First plans to operate some Boeing 737-200 from Summer season 1983 on were cancelled, because of the fail for raising funds. Following year saw a change of the company form into a stock corporation and in May 1984 Jetair was able to purchase its first aircraft – an former Air Panama  Boeing 727-81, originally delivered to ANA All Nippon Aiways  on 04 March 1966 as JA8316. This Boeing 727 became D-AJAA (sn 18951 / ln 237)  and remained the backbone until the carriers end. Charter operations begun in late Summer 1984, but a few months later financial problems increased and the plan of buying a second Boeing 727-100 had to be dropped. From April 1985 on Jetair operated a leased Boeing 727-100 from US-carrier Jet 1 until the financial problems stopped all of Jetair’s operations in December 1985.
