On 14 February Wizz Air announced that it will begin its first opeations to Frankfurt in Summer 2017, opening two routes to Frankfurt. Daily flights from Sofia will begin on 22 May 2017, while daily Budapest service will start on 15 December on the airline’s A321s.
Wizz Air was founded in June 2003 in Budapest and the Hungarian capital is its biggest base in Central Europe. Initially a pure A320 operator, Wizz Air today operates a fleet of 77 aircraft (63 Airbus A320 and 14 Airbus A321) to more than 130 destinations in Europe.
Update 21.03.2017: Ryanair announced that it will launch more than twenty new routes from Frankfurt International Airport for the start of Winter 2017/18 beginning in September 2017. The Irish LCC will link Frankfurt to Athens, Barcelona, Brindisi, Catania, Glasgow, Gran Canaria, Krakow, Lanzarote, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Milan, Manchester, Pisa, Porto, Seville, Teneriffe, Toulouse, Valencia und Venedig. From 28 March 2017 on Ryanair will start four new routes from Frankfut to Alicante, Faro, Malaga und Palma de Mallorca. The Frankfurt base will host four Boeing 737-8 in Summer 2017, inreasing to seven examples from September 2017 on.
Irish low cost carrier Ryanair started its operations in 1985 as a regional carrier, today the airline operates 377 Boeing 737-800 and a Boeing 737-700 to more than 200 destinations.
